Watson launches financial services business

CWL Associates, owned and operated by Clive Watson, opens Monday in Davis. The financial services business will specialize in estate planning, wealth management, insurance and financial planning. Watson is a 40-year veteran of the industry.

Although he ran a successful company in England, he moved to the United States in 1980 to enable his wife, Joy Mench, to continue her academic career at Cornell University. He qualified as a registered representative at the World Trade Center in New York City and built a successful practice in Ithaca, N.Y.

A further career opportunity for his wife brought about another move, this time to the Washington, D.C., area, where Watson continued growing his practice. As a member of a National Cathedral Board and a patron of the arts, Watson enjoyed 10 years in the greater Washington area, until an offer to Mench of a professorship in the department of animal science at UC Davis brought the couple to Davis in 1995.

Watson spent 17 years running an independent office for LPL Financial, looking after a small number of high-net-worth individuals, while traveling the world with his wife. He enjoyed serving on the Pence Gallery board and has been a patron of the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts and the Sacramento Ballet for the past 10 years.
