Detroit steel, Davis asphalt

The monthly Cruise-In at The Marketplace Shopping Cente — a show of 60 to 80 classic cars, trucks, military vehicle and motorcycles, both foreign and domestic — returns Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the West Davis shopping center, Sycamore Lane and Covell Boulevard.

There is no cost to show a car, and visitors are invited to talk with owners in the informal setting. Refreshments will be available.

Sunny, hot and happening at Whole Earth

The 43rd annual Whole Earth Festival continues Sunday with drumming and tie-dye, crafts and vegetarian-friendly goodness that locals and visitors have come to expect.

The event features dozens of musical acts and speakers, about 160 crafts booths, 40 education booths and 17 vegetarian-friendly food booths.

For all the fun on the UC Davis Quad there also will be, as ever, a political undercurrent to the free, three-day event expected to attract about 30,000 people.
