After 18 years, Alphabet Moon Toys & Treasures will close its doors at the end of the month. Music tells a special story, of love and laughter, heartache and sorrow or blessings and joy.
For Sarah Majorins of Davis, capturing these emotions in a melody is more than just a passion, it’s a business, too. She writes music for special occasions — including church services, weddings, concerts, new songs that go into albums, and more.
Working from her family’s East Davis home, she provides new arrangements of familiar hymns, as well as original material, to customers around the country, using the Internet to move sheet music and sound files back and forth.
She has long been an active musician.
“My dad (David George) is a pastor, at Valley Springs Church in Roseville. So I’ve been involved in church music my entire life,” she says.
For years, downtown toy merchant Alphabet Moon has been the point-of-purchase for countless birthday presents that delighted local youngsters. But with Alphabet Moon planning to close by the end of January, another nearby business that targets a similar customer demographic is retooling its strategy, seeking to fill at least part of the niche being vacated […]

The new-for-2012 Range Rover Evoque with standard all-wheel drive Terrain Response System also is impressively capable off-road and recently snagged the 2012 […]

The message on the easel out front always said it all: “Come and play.”
And for nearly two decades, the children did.
Because Alphabet Moon Toys & Treasures was never just a toy store; it was a Davis destination, a favorite place to visit, where to browse was to play, and where current owner Christine Hildebrand and her employees earned raves for their selection of toys and customer service.
But Christine Hildebrand, who bought the store nearly 10 years ago, said Alphabet Moon took two big hits about three years ago: the economy tanked, and Target opened in Davis.

Pickup trucks used to be for hauling stuff. You would not want to use them for anything else because they were uncomfortable and crude. Today, you can get a truck that is as comfortable as any luxury car with state-of-the-art features. And while the comfort and features have increased, the amazing thing is that trucks’ […]

Paris Clark of Woodland was among a dozen area residents given free hearing aids by Avalon Hearing for its second annual “12 Days of Christmas” hearing mission in Sacramento and Yolo counties.
