Local residents are invited to learn more about foster care and the foster-to-adoption process in Yolo County at two upcoming information sessions. Foster families who already have “traveled the road” will be on hand to describe their experience and answer questions.
The first session will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at the Stephens Branch Library, 315 E. 14th St. in Davis. A second opportunity is planned in West Sacramento, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, at the Turner Branch Library, 1212 Merkley Ave.
These informal meet-and-greet sessions offer a chance to talk with several licensed foster parents in a casual setting and to learn more about foster care and foster-to-adoption.
“We share personal experiences, give an overview to the licensing process and highlight the rewards and challenges in parenting kids in care,” said Cherie Schroeder, foster care recruitment and retention specialist. “Our goal is to demystify common fallacies regarding the requirements for becoming a licensed foster parent.”
Married, gay, single, young or old individuals, homeowners and renters alike are invited.
“We hope you will join us as we truly need families for a range of children — newborns to teens,” Schroeder said.
