A bit of Olympic glory right here in Davis

The 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City are remembered best, perhaps, for what happened during the track and field events.

But amid the record-breaking — and frequently elevation-aided — performances and political controversy of Mexico City, it would be a 29-year-old American named Bill Toomey who would be dubbed “the world’s greatest athlete” when he won gold in the decathlon.
