All city lights are turning green with new LEDs

Let there be light. Let there be energy-efficient, money-saving, effortlessly maintained, clean, new light.

That’s the proclamation the city has trumpeted over the past few years, while changing out hundreds of old high-pressure sodium street and pathway lights — the “yellowish-looking” kind — with energy-efficient and low-maintenance LED lights, in small phases.

The various projects are part of the city’s commitment to replace every street and pathway light in the city — all 6,200 of them (4,200 street, 2,000 pathway) — with the efficient new fixtures. At least, when resources are available to do so.
