Locals recall slain ambassador to Libya

Long-ago classmates of Chris Stevens on Wednesday found themselves trying to put together the face of the 52-year-old slain U.S. ambassador to Libya with the blond boy they knew at Emerson Junior High School.

On Tuesday, an armed mob angered by a film mocking Islam’s Prophet Muhammad killed Stevens and three other Americans who had gone to evacuate the consulate in Benghazi, according to news reports.

Stevens attended Emerson from 1972 to 1975. There, he played saxophone in the band, joined the ski team and worked on the Flame and Wasp, the school’s yearbook and newspaper.

Classmate Tanya Noda remembered the young Chris as “very quiet,” “active” and “well-rounded.” Liz McCapes said …
