Sequester impacts low-income housing

On Tuesday, Rep. John Garamendi listened to men and women talk about dwindling federal housing help. He had little to offer in return, except a vow to retell their stories in Washington, D.C.

“I can’t promise anything,” said Garamendi, D-Walnut Grove, during an hourlong meeting at The Villas public housing complex in which he painted the Republican leaders of the House as “blind” to the struggles of people in their own communities.

Due to sequestration, the Yolo County Housing Authority can provide rent vouchers to 244 fewer families this year.

Ordinarily, 73 families on a waiting list of almost 11,000 would have received a call by now …
