Art lovers are invited to stroll through 22 local galleries and business on Friday night, enjoying food, drink, live music and an opportunity to meet artists at the monthly Second Friday ArtAbout.

The event is sponsored by the Davis Downtown Business Association. Interested visitors can print out a map and schedule of receptions at http://www.davisdowntown.com. Hours vary, but are roughly 5 to 9 p.m. Admission is free.

This month there are two new additions to the list of art walk participants: Risto Hair International, 325 G St., and Richard L. Nelson Gallery on the UC Davis campus, Old Davis Road at A Street (in the old University Club building).

Risto will hold a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. for Sacramento artist James Cameron and his vibrant abstract expressionistic acrylics, which offer bright color, unusual composition and abundant texture. His paintings have appeared in numerous one-person and group shows at galleries and other commercial venues throughout Northern and Central California.

There will be two inaugural receptions from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Nelson Gallery, which recently moved to Nelson Hall, formerly the University Club. The exhibit “American Gothic: Regionalist Portraiture from the Collection” presents a survey of portraiture over the past 100 years. Guest curator Lee Plested, who will be present Friday evening to answer questions, has selected more than 100 pieces from Nelson’s collection, including several new acquisitions never before seen. There will be a specific emphasis on the Davis 5 (Roy de Forest, Wayne Thiebaud, Robert Arneson, Manuel Neri and William Wiley).

The second exhibit at the Nelson Gallery — “Gordon Cook: Out There” — features 20 paintings, drawings and lithographs by the San Francisco artist Gordon Cook (1927-1985).

As usual, the ArtAbout features more than just visual art. At The Wardrobe, 206 E St., photographer Eve West Bessier will read some of her poetry in conjunction with her gorgeous floral photography on exhibit, from 7 to 9 pm. DJ Heather will spin electronica and world beat to set the mood.

There will also be soul and bass by DJ Mr. Glass from 7 p.m. to midnight at Delta of Venus, 122 B St., for the LAADS Magazine Launch Party and ArtAbout art reception at the café and pub. Timed with the art magazine’s first issue, the LAADS art exhibit features innovative works by local artists featured in the issue, Morgan Herbert-King, Anna Valdez, Jessica Cooke and Stephanie Wickizer.

And don’t forget live music: Visitors can catch Cooper McBean & the Vested Interest at Armadillo Music, 205 F St., from 6 to 7 p.m.; guitarist Al Wilder will play at a photography exhibit at Nina’s Studio, 241 F St., from 6 to 9 p.m.; Riggity Jig will play at the Yolo SPCA Thrift Store on Third Street from 6 to 8 p.m.; and the Greg Willett Band will play at Rominger West Winery, 4602 Second St., from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Lastly, hops heads can enjoy Beer Geeks beer tasting at $1 per taste or $5 for a full slate at the Davis Food Co-op’s ArtAbout reception for Mehdi Moghaddam’s digital art installation, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Co-op is at 620 G St., and the reception is in the Conference Room.
