Assemblywoman Mariko Yamada welcomed 104-year-old Clara Landucci of Woodland, into the 8th Assembly District’s “Century Circle” on Friday, May 11.
Yamada joined Landucci’s family and friends in celebrating her longevity at a special gathering in her honor.
In May 2010, Yamada, who is chair of the Assembly Aging and Long-Term Care Committee, launched the Century Circle program to recognize centenarians year-round in Solano and Yolo counties. The goal is to bring greater attention to the growing number of people 100 years old and older, their families and those who care for them. Landucci was the 56th centenarian to be recognized since the program began.
“I am privileged to welcome Mrs. Clara Landucci, one of Woodland’s longest-living residents, to the Century Circle,” said Yamada, D-Davis, in a news release. “As we recognize Older Americans Month in May, her spirit and resilience shows just how vital the contributions of our elders are to our communities.”
Landucci is a new resident of Palm Gardens Assisted Living in Woodland, but she has been a Woodland resident since her birth on Dec. 28, 1907. She was born a twin, one of the two oldest of five girls and two boys. Her parents, Eugenia and Carlo Morelli, emigrated from Lucca, Italy, to Woodland. They operated Ma Morelli’s boarding house and restaurant at Main and West streets.
In 1926, Clara met Michael Landucci and married in Saints Peter and Paul Church in San Francisco. They later had three children, Richard Landucci, Roger Landucci and Carmen Daley.
Clara is the proud matriarch of six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also a lifelong member of Native Daughters of the Golden West. She enjoys gardening, sewing and canning fruit and tomatoes.
Those who are interested or know of someone who may be interested in becoming part of the “Century Circle” should contact Yamada’s district office at (707) 455-8025 or email [email protected] with the name, contact information and birthday of the celebrant.
