Do you know a Jewish teen who is changing his or her local community or the world? Nominate that teen for a Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Award, and her or she could be awarded $36,000.
Now in its sixth year, the Tikkun Olam Awards — which means “repair the world” — are given annually to as many as five California teens for their community service or social action projects.
Established by Bay Area philanthropist Helen Diller — who has given more than $200 million over the past decade to charitable projects supporting education, the arts, medical research and leadership training for teens — the awards aim to celebrate and encourage the next generation of Jewish leaders who are already pursuing their visions for significant social change. The award is funded by the Helen Diller Family Foundation.
Teens may be nominated by teachers, community leaders, rabbis or anyone who knows the value of their volunteer service and commitment — anyone except family members, that is. Teens also may nominate themselves. Each candidate must be a California resident between 13 and 19 years old at the time of nomination, and must self-identify as Jewish.
Community service projects may benefit the general or Jewish community. Teens who were paid for their services are not eligible.
