Kids in the News: Congratulations to Boys and Girls State delegates

By From page A8 | October 09, 2012

The American Legion and American Legion Auiliary, Yolo Post 77, recognized this year’s Boys and Girls State delegates during a special recognition meeting last month. The post and auxiliary sponsor students’ participation in Boys and Girls State each year, promoting leadership and training in the U.S. government process.

Delegates are active participants and become part of the operation of local, county and state government. Applicants are nominated by the faculty of their high schools during junior year. A pool of five candidates are selected by each high school for a final interview. The interview and selection committee is composed of a post or auxiliary chair, a high school administrator and a second high school staff person.

Boys State was held at Sacramento State University in June and Girls State was held at Claremont McKenna College in late June and early July.
