New intro to ag class for junior high students

By From page A8 | January 08, 2013

Ongoing efforts to enhance garden-based learning in Davis get a boost this winter with a new city class offering for junior high school students: an after-school “introduction to agriculture” class.

The class will meet Thursdays from 3:45 to 4:15 p.m. at Harper Junior High School, 4000 E. Covell Blvd.

Weekly lessons will be tied to hands-on activities that encompass gardening, floral design, herbal studies and cooking. The class will make use of Harper’s 3-acre school garden, fruit orchard and aquaponics pond.

Space will be limited, so early registration is recommended. There will be two sessions: Feb. 21 to March 28 and April 11 to May 16.

To register, or for more information, call the city of Davis Community Services Department at 530-757-5626 or visit www.cityofdavis.org.
