Winners of the annual city of Davis Street Smarts poster contest will be honored in a ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Davis Art Center, 1919 F St., and all artwork submitted for the contest will be displayed at the center Dec. 7-15. Mayor Joe Krovoza will be the master of ceremonies.
As in previous years, this year’s contest invited students in grades K-6 to create original artwork illustrating the importance of proper helmet use, safe bicycle riding, crossing the street safely and safe driving.
Prizes will be awarded in two categories — grades K-3 and 4-6 — and the grand-prize winners in each category will receive $75 gift cards to The Avid Reader, a month of free classes at Baciarini’s Martial Arts, free YoloBerry frozen yogurt, a $25 gift card to B&L Bike Shop and more.
All of the submitted artwork will be on display around town throughout the year.
“It’s great to see Davis kids getting involved in public health and safety,” said Street Smarts coordinator Rachel Hartsough. “We are very excited to have a new batch of wonderful artwork to use in our upcoming educational materials.
“I’m not telling where, but you’ll see some of the winning artwork very soon, so be on the lookout.”
