It’s not too late to register for the Davis Community Track and Field Club summer program.
The club will meet Mondays through Thursdays from June 10 to July 25, but participants can choose from five different session options. Costs are dependent upon which options a participant chooses; scholarships are available for youths who want to attend the summer program but can’t afford to.
Two practices are offered: one for fourth- through sixth-graders; another for seventh- to 12th-graders.
Practice runs from 9 to 11 a.m. for all athletes on Halden Field at Davis High’s Ron & Mary Brown Stadium.
All athletes, according to organizers, will have the opportunity to learn all track-and-field events: sprints, hurdles, pole vault, jumps, throws, distance and relays.
Cross country training will be provided in the evening for incoming high school athletes beginning June 24 and running to Aug. 8.
Participants get two meet options: the second annual Freedom from Hunger all-comers meet in June and a to-be-announced all-comers meet in July. Details will be posted at www.DCTFC.com.
The club has a corps of experienced coaches, headed by DHS track mentor Spencer Elliott and cross country coach Bill Gregg. Returning this year are NCAA-level athletes, who will work with Elliott and Gregg to ensure that all participants get individual attention.
The Davis Community Track and Field Club is a USATF Pacific Association member open to youths who either are beginning or experienced athletes. The club is designed to be a fun, friendly and low-key introduction to all track and field events. Also, the promotes the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, personal goal-setting and hard work.
