Community service is par for the course for many Davis kids, whether it’s part of a Boy Scout or Girl Scout project, a requirement for honor society, part of the bat mitvah experience or simply a desire to make a difference.
One of the favorite beneficiaries of youth largesse in Davis is the Yolo Crisis Nursery, which provides a safe haven for children up to age 5 who may be at risk for abuse or neglect.
The nursery offers emergency temporary shelter for children when their parents are experiencing a life crisis and provides comprehensive support to the families as well.
There is a never-ending need for supplies at the nursery, though, offering local youths many opportunities for making a difference. In the past, children have donated proceeds from everything from lemonade stands to carwashes to garage sales to help the crisis nursery.
