If your new year’s resolution to create more time, money and energy in your life is beginning to fade, add this event for motivation: Get your head shaved for a good cause, supporting critical medical research.
At 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, go to deVere’s Irish pub at 217 E St. to participate in the St Baldrick’s Foundation annual fundraising event. I had my head shaved last year for the first time and will continue to do so as long as I am able. What a great idea!
The funds raised by SBF are dedicated to research for treatment and cure of cancer in children. Much of the funds raised stay in local research centers, in this case UC Davis.
The process is a simple one. Go to www.stbaldricks.org/head-shaving and follow the prompts.
If you think your hair is too short to shave, you are mistaken. Unlike hair given to Locks of Love, which must be at least 10 inches long, SBF hair has no such requirement. Last year, my hair was only two inches long. I saw people with less getting shaved.
Your head will be in the hands of professionals. Thank you, Supercuts in 2012.
The atmosphere is a joyful one, with everyone feeling good about supporting a worthy cause. This was true even for those who were not going bald, but came to cheer on friends who were.
I promised you would save time, money and energy. It’s easy to see how the first two apply. Time, because it doesn’t take long to towel your head dry. Money, because you won’t need all those beautifying products. Can going bald really save your personal energy? Maybe not. I discovered the less hair I had to comb, the more face I had to wash.
It’s a good pub date. See you there.
