"Since every Davis teacher and administrator I have met believes in such an approach,...", belief is one thing being trained in the Montessori Method is another. I have a daughter with an anxiety disorder that would not fit in the traditional or 'neighborhood' classroom. The Montessori program has given her a space to excel in. Public education is far from being based on the Montessori Method. I feel that this focus on choice programs is distracting from the bigger picture of problems with NCLB.
Thank you Mr. Miller for asking these questions. With the recent release of demographic data from DJUSD, it is clear that the inequities between the choice programs and the neighborhood schools that house them is district wide. It is no longer mere speculation. I am very grateful to our Superintendent for releasing these numbers and for his efforts at transparency. I hope that as a community, we can now start the conversation on how to insure that ALL Davis kids are getting the very best educational experience possible.
