We’re voting for Sheila Allen for Davis City Council. First, we want you to know that we’re not voting for her just because she’s a great dancer, even though she is! More important is her background of 28 years as a public health nurse, 10 years on the board of First 5 Yolo and her being founder and executive director of the Yolo Healthy Aging Alliance.
These positions, and her nine years of service on the Davis school board — managing to keep our schools healthy during the state budget crisis — show her caring nature and ability to get important work done by listening to and working with others. We know she will make an excellent council member.
We’re also voting to re-elect Freddie Oakley as Yolo County clerk-recorder-assessor. For several years we worked on Election Day. Shelly worked in the office and Ellen was a rover, overseeing several voting locations looking for problems. We were continually impressed by the ways Freddie and her staff made the day go smoothly by taking care of any issues immediately and honoring the trust we have with her handling our votes.
After every election, she had a meeting of all the rovers where she asked for ideas for improving the election process from those of us who were on the ground and spoke with the poll workers. As we trust Freddie with our votes and county records, we will continue to trust her as our county assessor.
