Are your street lights lit?

By
From page A6 | October 27, 2011 |

Sunset on Halloween, Monday, is at 5:54 p.m. Will your trick-or-treaters be safe when the sun goes down? Will you be safe?

Please check to see if your street lights are lit when you are out and about that night and report them if they are out so that the Davis Public Works Department can arrange to have them fixed. Make reports online at cityofdavis.org.

On Tuesday night, I looked around some downtown areas that had seemed a bit dark lately. The parking lot where the FedEx store is… wow! It’s dark! And that business is still open at night. Spooky!

Actually, the parking lot light by Swanson’s Cleaners and Spa Central is out, too. But they have their own lights right in their doorways, which really helps. The light by the parking lot side of Premier West Bank is out. (They have a big box light over their ATM on the street side, but it was not lit for some reason).

There is a burned-out light by a bike shop; with all that inventory in the window, too. And there is a famous jewelry store that sits on a downtown corner that has two of four lights out. Makes for some interesting shadows.

Have a fun and safe Halloween, folks. And don’t forget to write down the numbers of the street lights in your neighborhood that are burned out and submit them. Kind of like the one on my street that is right in front of my neighbor’s house. Let’s keep the kids safe!
