Auction Gala was a huge success

On behalf of the Pence Gallery staff and board of directors, I would like to share our appreciation for the efforts of all the volunteers, artists and sponsors who helped to make our Art Auction Gala on Sept. 10 a successful and enjoyable event.

The auction is our largest fundraiser of the year to support the Pence, a nonprofit art organization founded in 1975. The gallery is solely supported by fundraising events, memberships, grants and donations. Proceeds from the auction enable us to offer annually nearly 17,000 visitors free admission to enjoy our exhibits or hear a talk.

This year, 140 artists donated part or all of the sale proceeds to the gallery during auction. The Pence would not exist without their continued dedication and donation.

Our auction patrons always enjoy the scrumptious appetizers and desserts provided by Seasons, Caffé Italia, Nugget Markets, Dos Coyotes, Davis Food Co-op and ciocolat. To complement our culinary treats, coffee and teas were offered by Peet’s Coffee & Tea, wine by Fiddlehead Cellars, and beer from Sudwerk Brewery. Products were also donated in part by All Star Rents and Watermelon Music.

Our event sponsors who were so gracious in supporting the auction this year were Raven’s Corner Framing; Dr. Henry Bennett, D.D.S.; Merrill Lynch/Scott Motley; Carbahal & Company; Comstock Mortgage Resource Network Team; and Tandem Properties.

Thank you to the patrons who attended our pre-auction event, and those who came to the Auction Gala and purchased art.

Volunteers were essential to the event’s success, and are too numerous to mention. Board president Sue Smith and board member Nancy Roe were so helpful in organizing the numerous details of the event. Designer Alison Roe did a fantastic job in designing our catchy graphic materials, and we were so fortunate to have her help. Steve Boutin donated his time as our auctioneer to both entertain and cajole patrons into buying every piece in our live auction — a first for the Pence!
