Bring pond back to health

By
From page A6 | October 03, 2012 |

Several days ago, I was running my dog out by the Northstar Pond. There were several men standing by the pond with clipboards discussing what to do concerning the condition of the pond. I think they were from the Parks Department.

Why spend money on doing a study, dredging, emptying or any other over-the-top ideas when the problem of the pond scum can easily be solved by turning on the pond aerators all day, every day? Maybe not on Sundays to appease the two or three people who had the city turn off the aerators several months ago due to the “horrible” noise — that same noise that the rest of us find calming and enjoy watching the geese swim through.

Years ago, when the fountains had been turned off because a neighbor said she did not like the noise, the pond scum looked like it does now. The fountains (aerators) were turned back on and the pond came back to health.
