The Yolo County Chapter of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence would like to thank the Davis Unified School District for including information about safe storage of firearms on the district’s website.
The memorandum to parents (in both English and Spanish) can be found at http://tinyurl.com/mcty9er. It outlines the basics of California law regarding the responsibilities of family members for safe storage of firearms in the home and the legal consequences of bringing guns to school. It is a good reminder that keeping firearms safely away from children (unless proper supervision is provided) can help save lives.
In 2012, more than 2,750 boys and girls ages 5-19 were injured or killed in firearm accidents in the United States. Let’s keep our children safe as the new school year begins.
