On Sept. 19, the first long-term feeding study testing Monsanto’s Roundup-ready corn (a genetically modified organism) and residuals of the herbicide Roundup on the health of rats was published in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicity. The lead author is Gilles-Eric Séralini.
The study has demonstrated significant pathological effects, including cancers and liver failure of rats fed GMO corn as compared to the control groups. The length of the study was two years, which is much longer than the 90-day trials that Monsanto ran to prove the safety of its products.
What is even more interesting is that the idea that the corn that is secretly incorporated into packaged food might have significant health effects has not become headline news. No major newspapers have carried the story, though the Los Angels Times and the Chicago Tribune have categorically dismissed this study as invalid in editorials. Forbes has an online article on this study that I would characterize as propaganda.
I urge readers to follow this story on line. If you want to read about the findings of this study, google “shock findings in new GMO study natural news,” or look up the journal article online.
Considering the fact that 70 percent of the corn and soy beans grown in the United States are Roundup-ready GMO products, then if the food item isn’t labeled organic, GMO foods are secretly incorporated in it.
Please vote for Proposition 37, our right to know the ingredients of the food we buy. End the secret incorporation of GMOs into our food supply.
