Clean water is worth the price

By From page A15 | February 10, 2013

During the past 20 years living in Davis, we installed two water softeners, three water purifying systems and seven faucets. We also buy cases of plastic bottled water because we refuse to drink Davis water. Consuming groundwater is unhealthy, not cheap and it hurts the environment.

We have to “soften” the water from our wells because its “hard,” which means it contains metals and other materials that leach through the soil. No wonder it tastes bad. Even with a water softener, our pipes and fixtures corrode. The salty water discharge eventually flows into the river, so we need a more expensive sewage treatment system.

Paying for delivery of Sacramento River water is a good investment. When you consider how much it really costs for water that isn’t even suitable for house plants, it makes a lot of sense to support Measure I.
