Composting program is a great opportunity

By April 15, 2011

We are Davis citizens concerned about our planet and members of the Stewards of God’s Creation group of Davis Community Church. We’re committed to changing our lifestyle in ways healthy for our planet.

We have built a three-bin composter at DCC and invited our neighbors, including apartment dwellers, to compost there. We planted a community garden at DCC that supplied local, seasonal ingredients to Artisan Baking on Wheels, which sells pizzas to benefit the Davis Farm to School Connection.

When we heard about the Davis business composting pilot, we were very excited. This is exactly what Davis needs. Now we find this pilot is in jeopardy. We want to let local businesses know that we care that they divert as much waste as possible from the landfill. We urge them to sign up for the program before the end of the month and use as many barrels as possible to divert compostables.

Time is running out, and this is a great opportunity for local businesses to reduce their impact and show their commitment to our community.
