Crisis looms at nuclear plant

By From page A6 | October 22, 2013

Whether you are pro- or anti-nuclear power, the situation at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant is very critical, especially Unit 4.

Unit 4, which is very unstable, especially the water-saturated ground it stands upon, needs to have its heavily toxic spent fuel rods (sitting in a protective pool 100 feet high) immediately removed to prevent them from catching on fire and creating a deadly radioactive plume that would be 15,000 times the fallout that was at Hiroshima. This horrific accident will happen if this very unstable unit falls down, exposing the spent fuel rods to air.

Personally, I signed a petition calling on world leaders, through the United Nations, to gather a team of the best scientific minds to take control and remedy this critical situation. The Japanese need help now.

For those interested, the petition is at nukefree.org.
