It occurs to me that I can save the city some money, if only it would allow me to cut down a city tree within my property line. I would incur the “cutting cost,” but please let me cut the tree that exacerbates allergies and causes untold garbage in my household.
It is a simple idea with cost-cutting opportunities for the city budget. Once the tree is cut, it can be removed from the city tree inventory and the city will stop incurring administrative costs. The city can trust our wisdom that we can restore the shade and spare the grief the Chinese tallow provides or, if it was appropriate, maybe use the newly available solar radiation to install a PV/thermal solar energy system.
Nonetheless, the tree is a nuisance and cutting it will cut costs. Just a thought, at a time when the city is asking voters to cover the city budget gap, maybe other voters would like to offer the city another tree cost-cutting opportunity. It will be money saved for the lifetime of the trees.
