DACHA: Sorting the wheat from the chaff

By From page A10 | January 20, 2013

Two headlines on the front page of the Jan. 10 edition of this newspaper had an interesting similarity. A judge OKs an award of $1 million to the pepper-sprayed students of UC Davis. The city has reputedly spent a similar amount over the past 2 1/2 years on legal fees trying to prove David Thompson is the bad guy in the DACHA saga.

Gee, whiz! The settlement reached is almost identical to the amount of the judgment against the DACHA group handed down by the mutually agreed-upon independent arbitrator on June 18, 2009. Taxpayer funds of about $1 million spent getting back to where the thing should have ended in 2009, a saving of perhaps $680,000.

Thank goodness that the new City Council majority of Lucas Frerichs, Brett Lee and Dan Wolk have displayed the maturity to bring a halt to this waste of taxpayer funds.
