I have known Bill Dodd for many years and I offer Davis voters these three important reasons to join me in voting for Bill Dodd for the Assembly: his experience, his attitude and his values.
* Experience. Bill Dodd has more experience as an elected official than all of his opponents combined. Nothing beats listening to and learning from the public and working with other elected officials to find solutions to problems. Bill Dodd has 14 years of experience doing that, both as a Napa County supervisor and at the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the nine-county regional transportation planning and funding agency for the Bay Area, and the Bay Area Toll Authority. He has “paid his dues” and is well-prepared to represent us in the Assembly.
By way of contrast, each of his two opponents from Davis has less than four years of experience as an elected official.
* Attitude. Bill Dodd likes to listen and learn. He listens to everyone. I have seen him chair public hearings where dozens of people testified on all sides of difficult issues. His approach has been to listen respectfully and carefully to everyone to make sure that he understands all viewpoints. Bill Dodd tries to deal with issues and problems sensibly. He tries to bring people together and has been quite successful at finding a consensus that everyone (or nearly everyone) can accept.
* Values. Bill Dodd has bedrock values that guide his decisions and actions — values like treating everyone as equal under the law. This newspaper has carried a number of articles recently about state legislators that have done very bad things. You may rest assured that Bill Dodd will never, ever do anything wrong. Bill Dodd is a man of honor.
