Downtown isn’t my destination

By From page A8 | October 24, 2013

The downtown traffic and parking situation is so bad that I avoid it and shop and eat out elsewhere when I can. The downtown area no longer holds any charm for me and I’m sure other Davis residents feel the same way.

I read the Downtown Parking Task Force’s 19 recommendations to the City Council and they did not include the most obvious recommendation, which is to encourage businesses to locate outside the downtown area. That is not surprising since the task force members almost all represent the downtown area.

I was told a few years ago by a candidate for City Council that a candidate who did not promote the growth of the downtown area could not get elected. It is time to end this stranglehold the downtown merchants have on the City Council and encourage the movement of business outside the Core Area.
