Fernandes, for the future

By From page B3 | November 01, 2012

My husband and I moved to Davis so our kids could be in the Davis school system. I first noticed Alan and his wife Lia when they were volunteering at all the school events at Birch Lane. As a teacher for 16 years, I can spot the parents who give everything to support our schools, and Alan immediately stood out. I was even more impressed when I learned he was also a member of the Birch Lane Site Council.

When our son signed up to play Davis Little League for the first time, we were lucky to have Alan as our coach (and maybe even luckier that he won the lottery and got to pick the Giants for our team name). Alan’s dedication and patience made the year an unforgettable experience for our son.

Moving to Davis was the best decision we could have made — the schools and the community are as wonderful as advertised, and I have been impressed with the quality of the teachers. So when I heard that our local teachers picked Alan as their candidate for school board, that made the decision to support him even easier.

I am not asking you to vote for Alan because he is a dedicated school volunteer, a patient coach or the candidate our teachers want to work with to make things better. I am asking you to vote for Alan because, after seeing him in action, I know he will make the right choices so children attending Davis schools now, and those attending in the future, will have the best path to success.

I’ll be thinking of my 3-year-old and my 6-year-old when I cast my vote for Alan Fernandes for Davis school board. I hope you’ll join me in voting for Alan on behalf of all of our children.
