Fire station for North Davis

Now that we know that The Cannery project will be developed, it is time to think about adding another fire station for North Davis. If possible, it should be near to or inside the project. It could be paid for by the businesses and landowners in the project by a special safety tax.

If that would not be enough, then the area where the fire district would cover could be included in the special safety tax. An agreement could be reached with the union, and the city would have to find the money up front to build and equip the station.

I believe this is an absolute necessity for such a large development within city limits.

Currently, 11 of them are sleeping soundly most every night at an incredible expense to taxpayers. Move the downtown station to F Street and Covell Blvd., have the UC Davis fire station cover the downtown area and problem solved.

Yeah move the station from downtown. That's a great idea. Except for the part that the central part of our city, our economy rests there. If the UC Fire is first in it will take twice as long for fire to get the downtown area. Look at a map and you will find that best plan is to move the UC station to north Davis. Our central and west Davis stations could cover UC land better than the UC's department can cover a portion of our city. Oh but if the UC does not like it then we just can't do it. Time for City Council to stand up for the people not the University.
