Fleet Feet gets a medal

By
From page A12 | June 23, 2013 |

“Attention, ladies and gentlemen, we have an important announcement to make…” These are the words that start our in-the-moment recognitions for runners who have just completed a half- or full marathon milestone at the 2012-13 Patwin Running Club. The words are sweet music to all of us for their power to inspire and motivate our children.

Over the years, Fleet Feet Sports in Davis has sponsored many after-school running club programs in Davis — contributing water bottles, Frisbees, store coupons and T-shirts to hundreds of children — as part of their commitment to equipping children with the skills and practices for life-long health and fitness.

Patwin Elementary School would like to thank Fleet Feet Sports in Davis for its continued support of our school’s running club. Fleet Feet once again generously donated water bottles, Frisbees and all of the marathon T-shirts. These incentives inspired our runners!

The shirts were awarded to children who ran 104 quarter-mile laps around the Patwin field, the equivalent of a marathon. This year, between September and May, Patwinners completed 37 full marathons, 20 half-marathons and ran a total of 1,649.5 miles!

We are very grateful for the wonderful support from Fleet Feet and for the parent volunteers who made another year of Patwin’s Running Club possible.
