Putting aside the arguments for and against water fluoridation in Davis, one thing is certain: There is a strong opposition to it.
Should the council vote to approve water fluoridation, there are a number of options the anti-fluoridation side can take to fight it. Historically speaking, communities with strong anti-fluoridation sentiments usually prevail. The question is, at what cost does this battle come to the city?
Given our economic limitations, and the children at stake, I feel it would be wiser to devote our resources to options with greater chances of success. A costly, long-running, water fluoridation battle serves no one.
