Fund Wintemute’s gun research

Bob Dunning’s most recent column calls for a great understanding of why these kinds of tragedies take place. Actually, there is someone in our midst who does understand these issues better than others. This is Dr. Garen Wintemute, who works at UC Davis Health System, whose work is known nationally and internationally.

This past year he was named one of the 2012 Health Care Heroes by the panel advising the Sacramento Business Journal on the selection. See: http://www.bizjournals.com/sacramento/print-edition/2012/05/25/health-care-heroes-garen-wintemute.html?page=all.

Maybe people here in Davis can help put an end to this kind of tragedy by helping fund Dr. Wintemute’s work. I am sure UCD would be willing to accept donations to help fund Dr. Wintemute’s public health research into understanding and reducing violence in our society.

Supporting his work on this topic is now on my 2012 end-of-year charitable donations list. Good grief, we have to do something!
