Docile Davis, sleepy town: While things happened in our past, nothing happens now…
In the early ’70s, Davis was a town of action. Our mayor-to-be, Bob Black, sat down on the tracks and stopped a weapons-carrying train from going forward to Roseville!
Now, it’s different: a comparable political emergency exists and, yet, town officials and police do nothing. As a nation, we are retreating to feudal times. Kings rule money and power. Others are serfs, and slaves. Democracy is gone and capitalism is dead. A funeral service should be performed …
However, a new nation may yet be born if our local town officials and police do something or, at the very least, do not get in the way of those attempting to do the right thing.
On Friday, March 16,, protesters were staying overnight at Central Park, after demonstrating against Monsanto that day. Police forced these protesters to leave, and fined them as well. The Davis police were, I acknowledge, doing their narrowly defined “jobs.” However, police actually were acting contrary to the spirit of the Constitution, which guarantees of freedom of assembly and speech!
In addition, on Tuesday, Occupy Davis representatives spoke to the City Council about this incident and received only a cold welcome. These sleepers at the dais refused to be budged, let alone, ticketed and fined. They didn’t even acknowledge they were asleep! Instead, the mayor suggested that Occupy Davis talk to the police chief to be assured that Occupy was not treated differently from any other group.
The point is: In this national emergency, Occupy Davis should be treated differently. The wealthy elitists make laws to suit their purposes and, when those laws are violated, are in such a position as to have violations ignored. In contrast, Occupy Davis now offers solutions to those crimes but is, instead, treated with criminal contempt.
When things are even, arrest Occupy. Otherwise, get out of the way, or, better yet, join Occupy and birth a better nation.
