How does one begin to understand the whole situation involving recent Davis school board actions or inaction? I did a bit of Googling and found “12 Mistakes Board Members Make” by Nicholas D. Caruso of the Connecticut Association of School Boards. The piece provided needed comment on how school board members could/should conduct business.
I invite concerned citizens to print it out and study it: http://www.psba.org/new-members/resources/12-mistakes-Caruso.asp. Section 8a is titled: “Having a Hidden Agenda.” I wonder if a member of the school board ran for office in order to “get” coach Julie Crawford? If the family’s unhappiness with the coach predated the (recently resigned) member running for office, it’s Crawford who was being targeted.
It’s a great pity that the $22,000 report is so top-secret. To the public, the whole thing remains a cloudy and murky mess. A recent letter from two members of the board (one of whom is a candidate for Davis City Council) suggesting that what’s needed is that “we all move on” is ludicrous. I don’t think that a mistake of this magnitude can be easily forgiven or forgotten.
