The following story is from my student at Corcoran State Prison. He is on a correspondence course through the Criminon Program and wanted his statement printed somewhere so he could have a copy. This is what he said:
“This course — the ‘Way to Happiness’ — has changed me to be a better person. It has showed me the true values of life and what it takes to be a much better, loving individual. I have learned that life is not problem-free. We will always have problems and dealing with them without getting angry will help me overcome them.
“I have learned to treat others with respect and (that’s) the way they treat me. I noticed a great difference. I noticed that I have a lot more friends (who) love being around me because of the person I am now. They treat me the way I treat them.
“I have learned to always be honest and truthful no matter the situation and all will turn out well.
“I now have a better relationship with my family because there has been a great change in my life. I have opened up my heart to them and showed them everything I have learned in this course, asking them forgiveness for (being) a negative, evil person all my life.
“My sister has seen the change in me (and) she has offered me a home and a full-time job once I’m released.
“This course and my sponsor have taught me the great values of life and the good things that come with it once you learn how to be happy.
“I want to thank my sponsor, Diane S., for being there for me.”
You’re welcome, Gilbert, and Merry Christmas to you.
