On Feb. 17, the people of Libya went to streets to ask for their rights. They are looking for their dignity that has been lost for 42 years. They want a better education, better health services and a good life. They are asking for simple rights.
Our leader has been in power for 42 years and nothing has changed. Libya is still the same as when our previous king was forced out. Libyan people need to feel that they are like others. It is well known that Libya is a wealthy country, but the people are living in extreme poverty there. They are wondering where their money has gone.
For that reason, they staged peaceful demonstrations in all Libyan cities to ask for their rights. Instead, they were faced by tanks, airplanes and mercenaries who were brought to kill, rape and torture Libyan people. The number of people who were killed was more than 500 in the first week of the revolution.
From the beginning, our current leader said to his people, “I will be in power forever; otherwise I will kill you all.” I do believe it is only a matter of time before Libyan people win their freedom. They will build the modern country that they want where everyone can live happily.
