Honor a fair vote in Crimea

By From page A6 | March 13, 2014

I hereby propose the following solution to the Crimea crisis: Postpone the Crimea referendum on joining Russia for two months, so that the Ukrainian government has time to present its case for Crimea staying with Ukraine. Give the Ukrainian government unfettered access to the Crimean news media, move Russian troops back to their barracks to avoid any question of intimidation, and let in international observers to verify the fairness of the election.

In return, the international community would accept the outcome of the referendum as legitimate, and not oppose Russian annexation if that is what the Crimean electorate votes for.
