A while back I read an article about equine-guided education.
I was particularly touched by the grieving hospice volunteer that was clearly comforted by one of the horses. Since I carry a load of grief around with me from working with chronically and terminally ill children for the past 23 years, I decided to take advantage of the free demo.
It was fascinating and I went back for more.
Even though I was afraid of horses from working with many children who’d been seriously injured by them, I found myself falling in love with a giant Percheron named Pete. I’m no longer afraid of horses — at least not afraid of Percherons — and I left my load of grief in the corral with Pete. He’s a draft horse; he won’t even notice it. In fact, I ran around the corral with Pete thundering beside me.
This is inexpensive and effective therapy, and it’s right in our back yard. Anne-Marie Flynn is the certified facilitator and she is supportive and intuitive. She and the therapy horses are an amazing combination.
I highly recommend this unique approach, and know it won’t be too long before I’m out there again to see Pete. Anne-Marie can be reached at http://www.littlewindsege.com.
