Hugo’s story has happy ending

By July 9, 2011

I’m responding to Julie Sontag’s letter from June 30. I just wanted to let her know that Hugo’s story has a happy ending. Our family adopted Hugo on June 28. We met Hugo the previous Friday while helping my daughter and her fiancé pick out two kittens. We had no intention of adopting a dog, especially a large one. We already had an 11-year-old dog at home and our older dog had passed away in November. I thought I was enjoying the quiet of a one dog household, but then I realized it was too quiet and a little bit boring. With Hugo there we are all enlivened. He wrestles with my son, he gets the old dog up and playing tug of war and he constantly has us laughing at his antics. We are now nightly at the dog park making new friends, both human and canine. We have even met one of his litter mates, Butters, and his wonderful parents. Our lives and house are now full of a big dog with just as much love to give. I would encourage anyone who is looking for a little companionship to consider adopting from their local shelter. There are so many other dogs and cats waiting for their chance to give some love. And please remember that spaying and neutering is also a way you can help with reducing the amount of unwanted pets.
