I dispute the conclusions of the Nevada County Grand Jury report. The savings cited in the report in mental health treatment costs would have invariably been realized once more resources were devoted to the people in the involuntary outpatient program.
One logical conclusion that wasn’t stated is that before the shooting, Nevada County devoted inadequate resources and attention to the people in the study group. A purely voluntary program for the same group would have yielded similar cost savings.
