Interesting week in news

By April 15, 2011

Sometimes I can’t find much of interest in the daily news, but then there will be a week like a recent one.

On Tuesday, April 12, there was an exciting photo of Ian Rock in mid-pole vault by Wayne Tilcock, and on Thursday, April 14, there was another amazing photo, this time by Fred Gladdis, of Maddie Trost clearing the high jump bar. Keep up the good work. I hope one or both of you win an award.

In addition, on Wednesday, April 13, Rich Rifkin wrote a column about the “Taj Mahal” courthouse building projects which could be stopped before they are started, saving California taxpayers $5 billion. I don’t always agree with Mr. Rifkin, but he hit one out of the ball park this time.

These are the sort of ideas our new-old governor should be made aware of. I still remember Jerry Brown stopping several public works projects mid-way back in the ’70s to balance the budget. I hope he has the courage to do it again.
