Is it jail, or a hotel?

By From page A6 | August 16, 2013

Please, please stop using this term of “lodging” arrestees. It doesn’t work or make sense unless they’re paying their own way. Are they? No, I don’t think so. (See below.) They’re not treated as guests nor worth consideration of the term of “lodged at the…” such-and-such jail. No other newspaper in this vicinity uses this charade of a term. Quit it anyway, will ya’?

“Perez was lodged at the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of criminal threats, brandishing a weapon and resisting arrest.”
