Da Vinci High School students completed their summer Young Energy Leaders internship program with Yolo Energy Watch. The students created promotional material, worked on a website and canvassed more than 1,000 Davis households, finishing up by tabling at the Farmers Market.
Their display included a CFL light bulb pyramid that attracted community members to their table where the students educated and informed people about several different home energy-saving programs. Community members also were treated to a pack of free CFL light bulbs by simply signing up to hear more about Yolo Energy Watch.
This was the concluding event for students Kalley Thompson and Anthony Berardi, who spent the majority of their summer spreading awareness about home energy efficiency for Yolo Energy Watch. A nonprofit partnership between Yolo County and PG&E, Yolo Energy Watch is dedicated to helping Yolo County residents and businesses save money and increase their energy efficiency. The Young Energy Leaders internship offered the students a chance to give back to their community and learn valuable skills for their future.
The energy efficiency programs promote a wide range of opportunities for everyone, from the college student renter to the average Davis homeowner. Free basic energy measures for qualified homeowners, rebates up to $4,000 and a low-rate loan for energy-saving upgrades are all available through these programs.
