Well, Mike, fortunately for the community, Davis city councils going back decades have disagreed with your view. They have recognized that the Downtown is the gathering place for the community and over and over again have invested public funds in the Downtown. Central Park, the Farmers Pavilion, Varsity Theater, E Street Plaza, the existing surface parking lots, the 1st & E cinema complex and parking structure, the 4th & G cinema and parking complex were all constructed in whole or in part with public financing. The list is endless. The community has profited from these public investments tremendously. You might consider changing your stance.

shopowner – Sure. I think as a business person your primary interests related to downtown are your business and the conditions which nurture that business. I support and patronize Davis businesses, but it is a far stretch to call a parking structure revitalization. If Davis businesses want to buy property and construct a parking structure at their own expense, then I will change my stance.

Mike, can you be more specific when you state “…I think most of the proponents have some other interests beyond “revitalization and renewal”.? As a business owner and downtown resident, I live, breathe and sweat for the downtown. I would like hear what you think my interests are beyond revitalization and renewal.

Ms. Moreno-Wilbur – So you think hoardes of Bay Area commuters from other cities flock to Davis every day? I think the parking structure is a ridiculous idea and I think most of the proponents have some other interests beyond “revitalization and renewal”.
