I’ve just finished reading Bob Dunning’s June 25 column about CH2M Hill, the sole bidder on the job of constructing the Davis/Woodland water treatment plant. It turns out this company has been fined millions of dollars by the federal government for fraud concerning how they managed a nuclear waste cleanup project at the Hanford, Wash., nuclear weapons production site; more particularly, they were found guilty of a conspiracy involving thousands of players.
Common sense says we should not use CH2M Hill and should begin the bid process again. No harm would result from slowing the process down. The wells are performing well; we are in environmental compliance with both the feds and the state. And the potential for disaster is high enough for the city to stop, reassess the situation, and begin again.
