Loving the better visibility

By
From page A6 | July 17, 2014 |

Deciding on the spur of the moment to walk to Nugget Market after dark last night, I was half way there before realizing I had forgotten to bring my flashlight, but was having no trouble navigating the sidewalk full of cracks, dips and root-heaved pavement.

Figuring it was the supermoon, I looked up into the sky after I came out from under the tree canopy. The moon wasn’t in sight, but I realized every street light on Pole Line Road was working for once, and was shining brightly enough to do a good job of safely illuminating my path.

As I finished my journey, I spent the time pondering the negative letters to the editor I had read complaining about the new street lights. Maybe those writers enjoy the uncertain thrill of a possible broken hip or knee contusion on their trips. As for me, thank you, city of Davis, for improving the quality of my life. (Now, about the condition of the sidewalks …)
